People Genres (Musing)

My sister and I were discussing a friend of mine’s nature and I asked how Theresa would describe her – after a moment, she said “academic country.” It sounded like a music genre. I loved it. When I got excited about that juxtaposition, my sister tempered the idea, slightly skeptical that I was putting people into boxes by coming up with labels for them (which is fair). I too am very much against reducing the complexities of individual people into easily categorizable labels. However, I still think it’s a fun thing to think about. Maybe a good get-to-know-you question.

So in good icebreaker question form, what is your genre? How would you encapsulate yourself in a couple words? How would you convey your essence? Where would you sort yourself if people were organized on a record store shelf?

This reminds me a lot of TikTok – there are a lot of ‘subgenres’ of video and people on TikTok that people then refer to. I.e. Christian Girl Autumn, Cottage Core, Vsco Girl. Boxing groups of people into stereotypes.
