Beauty (Musing)

It pains me that in the incredibly broad, varied taxonomy of beauties in this world we narrow our focus to such a small sliver of them. Why is beauty so substantially relegated to describing a relatively finite subset and combination of physical attributes? Human physical beauty is tragically wasted by those who chase after more of it, who flaunt it, or who drown it out with ugly personalities.

Beauty is all over the place. It’s in circumstances; leaves; emotions and absences. It’s in colors; good wordings; fresh ideas and new tastes. Birds wear it. Kids carry it. Distractions hide it away – but maybe they are secretly enjoying the beauty they obscure. Beauty brightens. It winks. It can be both conjured and discovered. It compels me to hope.
